IDCEE Social Entrepreneurship Hackathon winner Donor.ua has launched!
On March 13, 2015, a social startup Donor.ua launched the web site http://donor.ua/. The team has been working on the project since October last year, when the Founder Irina Slavinskaya received a cash prize of UAH 100k from Boris Kaufman, publisher of “Focus” magazine, at the “IDCEE. Internet Technologies and Innovations” conference.
Donor.ua is an all-Ukraine online database of blood donors and those in need of blood transfusion. The team is working in 20 cities across Ukraine. Volunteers collect, screen and upload information about patients to the website. They take into account such factors as blood type, needed type of blood transfusion, place of living and others. Each registered patient is allocated a list of suitable active donors. Therefore, donors are automatically notified of the date and place of blood collection.
“There is no unified autonomous online database of donors in Ukraine. We want to create a system that will be able to provide any one in need with required blood. We wouldn’t be able to create such a service without the grant from Boris Kaufman”, says Irina Slavinskaya.
Any one willing to donate blood can register on the web site. At the moment, the team is working on mobile apps for Android, Windows and iOS. The launch is due October 2015.
“I am very glad that the grant was received by a such reliable team, and that the project is already live. Today as never before we understand the value of human life. This is the reason why it’s important more than ever to support initiatives with the aim of preserving life”, comments Boris Kaufman.
