Drew J. Guff is a Managing Director and founding principal of Siguler Guff, a global multi-strategy private equity firm managing domestic and international assets on behalf of corporate and public employee benefit plans, endowments, foundations, government agencies, financial institutions, sovereign wealth funds, family offices and high net worth individuals. The Firm 's funds target carefully defined areas of market inefficiency, including distressed assets, U.S. small buyouts and the Emerging Markets.In 1995, Drew Guff and George Siguler acquired the private equity arm of PaineWebber to form Siguler Guff and its Moscow-based affiliate, Russia Partners Management. Russia Partners has come to be known as a pioneer in investing long-term capital in Russia and the CIS. Mr. Guff launched one of the first private equity funds in Russia, Russia Partners Company, LP, in 1994. Since inception, the Firm has invested in private Russian companies operating in industries such as pulp and paper, banking, software development, cement, and TV and radio media.
Notable successful investments include MTV Russia, a start-up initiated by Russia Partners in 1997, EPAM Systems, which held its IPO on the New York Stock Exchange in 2012, and DataSpace Partners, which recently completed the construction of Russia 's first Tier III-certified data center. Mr. Guff 's work in Russia began in 1991 when he advised the Russian government on long-term, foreign direct investment.
In 2005, Siguler Guff launched its first multi-manager fund dedicated to investing in, and alongside of, fund managers in Brazil, Russia, India, China and other Emerging Markets. With over $3 billion of capital currently committed in the BRICs, Siguler Guff is one of the largest private equity firms backing local managers in the Emerging Markets.Mr. Guff is a member of the Executive Board of the U.S.-Russia Business Council as well as a board member of the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Mr. Guff holds an A.B. in Economics from Harvard College and attended Leningrad State University State University in 1981. He speaks, reads and writes Russian.
